Human Rights News reports on a Sri Lankan under the age of 18 on death row

"Sri Lankan Under 18 at Time of Alleged Killing
The Saudi Court of Appeals should recognize that a foreign worker on death row was a child at the time of her alleged crime, when a baby died in her care, Human Rights Watch said today. The court should also review the fairness of the original investigation into Rizana Nafeek, a Sri Lankan domestic worker, and her trial."

I must say.  Saudi Arabia is really placing itself on my top list of places not ever to go to.  (Oh, and yeah, they are sharing the top spot with much more unlikely places like USA for instance.)

When are people going to understand that death penalty wont prevent crimes?  It will however, make the perpetrators make sure they don't leave any witnesses behind...

Okay, in this case, a minor probably had no such plans.  I'm guessing she made a terrible mistake with no criminal intent... but hey, international law does not recognize minors as responsible for their actions... that's kinda the definition of minor...

On the other hand... we seem to pour all the responsibilities of an adult on them, why not punish them like adults as well... surely they'll rise to the challenge, right?

Or, hey?  Does age and maturity have something to do with each others?  Saudi courts are, hopefully, still pondering that question while hundreds of children are waiting on death row...

Ah well, those kiddies aren't related to anyone of importance anyway, and they're certainly not kiddies from Europe or US so... let's watch sports instead... it'll blend much nicer with dinner... don't wanna spoil the sunday steak, do we?

Newsflash

I've moved the hoakz.com website back to the www.hoakz.com domain.

Okay, in fact the move is still in progress, but I'm moving over pages (even the very oldest ones) as quickly as possible.

Hopefully this will not be too much of an inconvenience, if not, I'm sorry!
